Padel court cost: what an hour costs to play, and what a court costs to build
Padel court cost depends on which side of the net you're standing on. Renting one in the US runs about $40–$120 an hour for the whole court, or $10–$30 a player once four of you split it. Building one runs roughly $60,000–$120,000 per outdoor court, installed.
Padel court cost per hour in the US
Clubs price by the court, not by the head. You book a 60- or 90-minute block and pay the same rate whether you bring three friends or one. That's the thing new players get wrong about padel court price — showing up as a pair roughly doubles what each of you pays.
Rates move with the market, the hour, and whether there's a roof. A weekday-morning outdoor booking in Texas is a different product from 7pm on a Wednesday in Manhattan.
| Setting | Court rate per hour | Per player, four-way split |
|---|---|---|
| Off-peak outdoor, suburban club | $40–$70 | $10–$18 |
| Weekday indoor, standard hours | $60–$100 | $15–$25 |
| Peak evenings and weekends, major metro | $100–$160 | $25–$40 |
| Member rate at a membership club | $20–$60 plus dues | $5–$15 |
Ninety minutes is the more common block and the more honest one — two sets plus a warm-up rarely fits inside an hour. Format matters too: golden point ends every deuce on a single decisive point, while advantage scoring can stretch one game past ten minutes and overrun the slot.
How much does it cost to play padel, all in
The court is most of the bill, not all of it.
- Racket rental: $5–$15, and plenty of clubs hand you a loaner with the booking. Buying lands around $80–$300 for something you'd keep.
- Balls: a can of three runs $8–$15. One can covers a couple of social sessions; competitive groups open a fresh one far more often.
- Guest fees: membership clubs commonly add $10–$25 for a non-member in your four.
- Coaching: group clinics typically work out to $25–$45 per player for 60–90 minutes. Private lessons are quoted per hour by the coach and cost more.
A realistic all-in for a casual weekly game in most US markets is $20–$35 a session with gear. Prime time in Miami or New York runs higher.
Once you're playing weekly, the hourly figure matters less than what you got out of the hour — who you played with, how the sets ran, which pairing keeps beating you. Padel Scoreboard is a padel scoreboard app for iPhone and Apple Watch that tracks match scores, so the result survives past the drive home.

What it costs a club to build a padel court
These are the ranges US operators and manufacturers quote; site conditions swing them hard.
The court structure
A standard kit — galvanized steel frame, 10mm or 12mm tempered glass panels, welded mesh, net and posts, artificial turf — generally lands around $20,000–$45,000 per court from the manufacturer, most of them European. Panoramic courts, with fewer vertical posts and larger glass panels, sit at the top of that band or above. Freight, duty, and installation labor are quoted separately and aren't small.
Slab, drainage, and site work
The court plays on a reinforced concrete slab that has to be flat and properly drained. Budget $15,000–$40,000 for the slab, more if the site needs grading, retaining walls, or new drainage. The footprint is bigger than the playing area: a court is 20m × 10m plus clearance around and overhead, so a parcel that looks big enough often isn't. Check the exact court dimensions before pricing concrete.
Lighting and power
LED lighting for evening play typically runs $5,000–$15,000 per court installed, plus whatever an electrical service upgrade costs. Skip it and you lose the hours that actually sell.
Indoor changes the math entirely
Put a roof over it and the building becomes the project; the court is a line item inside it. Pre-engineered steel, air domes, and converted warehouse bays all get used, and cost per court can run several times the outdoor figure. What you buy is a full-length season, which is why so many northern clubs go indoor rather than outdoor.
Permitting
Zoning, setbacks, and noise are where timelines go. A padel court is loud — the ball off tempered glass carries — so residential-adjacent sites draw objections, and some jurisdictions ask for sound mitigation or restricted hours. Permitting can add months before a shovel moves.
After it's built
Turf is the consumable: monofilament turf with sand infill wears with play and generally gets replaced every 5–8 years, roughly $5,000–$12,000 a court. Glass panels break now and then. Add lighting electricity, nets, insurance, booking software, and someone to run the desk.
FAQ
How much is a padel court to rent for an hour?
Most US clubs charge $40–$120 per hour for the court itself. Split four ways that's usually $10–$30 each. Peak evening slots in large metros go higher, and member rates go lower.
Why does padel cost more than tennis or pickleball?
A padel court is a manufactured structure — steel, glass, turf — not lines painted on existing asphalt. Clubs recover a much larger build cost across a fixed number of court hours, and in the metros where padel has caught on, demand still outruns supply. More on that gap in padel vs pickleball.
How much does it cost to build a padel court at home?
Plan on the same structure cost as a club court plus your own slab and site work, so $60,000–$120,000 outdoors is a reasonable starting range. Land is usually the harder constraint: you need clear space well beyond the 20m × 10m playing area, plus height.
Do I need my own racket to play?
No. Nearly every US club rents rackets for a few dollars, and many include one with the booking. Most groups just buy a can of balls and share it.
Are padel bookings 60 or 90 minutes?
Both exist, but 90 minutes is more common and more realistic for two sets with a warm-up. Some clubs sell shorter 60-minute slots off-peak at a lower rate.
